Tutoring with Compassionate Math

Most people think they are bad at math. I think you had bad experiences learning math. We are humans; and humans are mathematical beings. If you’re looking for one-on-one help, I am happy help. It doesn’t matter if you’re a student looking for a better grade, a parent who is rusty and has to help the little one with homework, or a teacher who is nervous about teaching math. Compassionate Math will happily help and support you to reduce anxiety, eliminate your math trauma, and support math learning so you can be confident and successful in math. You don’t have to keep thinking that you are bad at math.

Recently, I started working with students who likely suffer from dyscalculia. Dyscalculia is a learning difficulty which affects people’s ability to think quantitatively. Using more student-centered methods, including manipulatives and hands-on experiments, students feel supported. With a more personalized approach, if you have dyscalculia, you don’t have to be bad at math, you can be successful in mathematics. As with all aspects of equity and math learning, good teaching and content knowledge is the basis for good outcomes.

“I learned new strategies and ideas that changed the way I teach. These lessons received high reviews from students. I also saw an increase in student engagement.”

“The most impactful part of the sessions were focused around implementing newer pedagogy in a practical way, & seeing results. Additionally, Dr. Aly’s authenticity & compassion impacted my motivation & confidence.”

Are We a Good Fit?

I am honored to work one-on-one with any student. I try to be as supportive and helpful as possible. We will absolutely always go at your own pace, and I am happy to answer whatever questions you have. However, we may not be a good fit if you are looking for someone to “get you through” your homework. If you’re focused on just getting the right answer, without wondering how you got there, we may not work well together.

I am happy to meet remotely, so we can work together wherever you are. I can meet via Zoom. However, we will need to figure out a way for me to see your work. An inexpensive document camera can do this. If cost is an issue, we can figure something else out.

Rates

I will not lie. Private tutoring is expensive, especially when you’re getting tutored by a Professor and someone with the education that I have. Unfortunately, this means those who may benefit the most out of my expertise can rarely afford this kind of support, but I recognize that and am happy to help those in need. I also offer referral programs. Please don’t let costs hold you back. Let’s talk about how tutoring with Compassionate Math can help reduce your math anxiety, eliminate your math trauma, and support math learning.
